The Harford County Health Department is the local operating arm of the Maryland Department of Health and Mental Hygiene (DHMH) in Harford County and is responsible for the delivery of a wide range of preventive health care, clinical services, and environmental health services to citizens living in Harford County.  The Health Department has eight major divisions:  Addictions, Administration, Environmental Health, Health Education, Health Services, Health Promotion and Disease Control, Care Coordination, and WIC (Women, Infants, and Children).

Employing over 200 employees, the Health Department provides services at various locations throughout the county and has Community Health Centers in Aberdeen, Bel Air, Edgewood, and Havre de Grace. In 2008, the Health Department opened a Dental Clinic in Edgwood targeted to youth ages 1-18 who are on medical assistance.

The Health Department operates under the Health General and Environmental Law of the Annotated Code of Maryland.  Additionally, Chapter 9, Article 11, Section 116 of the county code designates the Council as the Board of Health.
