2010 WET SEASON PERCOLATION TESTING
Harford County Health Department Bureau of Environmental Health 2010 wet season percolation testing began on December 7, 2009, the earliest date on which the Department ever has opened the wet season.
This decision was based on an observed rise in water table levels in the Department’s network of groundwater monitoring wells attributable to the significant rainfall during the months of October, November and December.
Because it is impossible to predict in advance how long the wet weather “window” will remain open, the Health Department encourages applicants to submit their applications as soon as possible. Likewise, depending on the volume of applications received and the availability of Health Department staff, applications received after April 1st sometimes cannot be scheduled in the current wet season.
In a typical year, the wet season can routinely be expected to run between February 1st and April 30th. As demonstrated by the early start this season, this time frame is weather dependent. The start and ending date of the wet season is based, whenever possible, on real time well-monitoring data.
